Retired member Sammy Cates passed away yesterday February 2nd,
2012 in his home. Sammy suffered with
cancer for many years. Sammy will be
cremated. A memorial service will be held
Sunday February 5th at 3:00 p.m. at
William “Bill” Plunkett, the son of SMWIA Local 85 retired member
Conway Plunkett, passed away in his home unexpectedly on January 13, 2011. Bill was 45 years old and
lived in Lake City, FL. There are
no funeral arrangements at this time.

Harris, passed away January 1, 2012. We
were notified of her death today 01/17/2012.

Mr. Travis “Smokey” Lasiter passed away on Thursday, November 17,
2011. He was 85 years old and a WWII
Veteran. His graveside service was

The mother of Scott Houston passed away last week, the Local was
notified today of her passing.
Retired Member John McAfee passed away On Tuesday, November 8, 2011 of
cardiac arrest. The funeral was held
today at 11:00 a.m. at Donahoo Funeral Home in Hapeville, GA
Member Rex Thomas passed away Wednesday November 9, 2011. He battled a rare genetic disease for a
year.

Previous member Curtis Hodgson passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2011 in
his home. Brother Hodgson was a second
generation sheet metal worker, he had been ill for many years. There will be a memorial service on Monday,

Scott E. Smith – Local 85 Journeyman passed away Sunday March 6,
2011. He was diagnosed with Esophagus
Cancer during the Christmas Holidays. He
and his wife Chris has three children, two girls in
college and one son who is a senior in high school. The body of Scott was cremated. Chris will let us know when there will be a
memorial service for him. If you would

Colin Smith – a 39 year old journeymen member, passed away suddenly of
a massive heart attack on November 7, 2010.
Colin had transferred into Local 85 from Local 28 in October 2010. He had never worked for any of the contractors signatory to Local 85. We were notified of his death on Friday,
February 11th by his wife; she delivered their first child in
December 2010. Flowers were sent to
Mrs. Smith.
Mr. Embry Trimble, Local 85 retired member, passed away shortly after
contracting pneumonia. He was also
suffering with lung cancer. He died
January 24, 2011. Funeral arrangements
are as follows: The body was cremated.

Brian Kirk a 3rd year apprentice was fatally injured on
October 27th in an on-the job accident at Don Park, Inc. Bryan was a third generation Sheet Metal
Worker, he is the son of Local 85 Journeyman John Kirk, the Grandson of Retired
member Hugo Kirk and the brother of former Apprentice Member Bobby Kirk.

remember, Frankie had an automobile accident December 1, 2009. During the treatment for his injuries they
discovered he had a brain tumor. He has
been in a coma for quite some time.
