Randy Beall's Monthly Business Report — February, 2008

Brothers and Sisters,

The work situation in and around Atlanta continues to be strong. We have not seen this much work since 2001. I have listed below areas and jobs in my area that are on-going or upcoming; I hope that you are as encouraged by this as we are.

Atlanta (metro)
Several jobs are underway downtown and in the surrounding area including, The Mansion, 1010 Peachtree, St. Regis, Marriott, Piedmont Hospital, Emory just to name a few. These jobs along with many others have created several job opportunities for our members.

West Point and LaGrange
TKS has met with us several times and discussed the Kia project; this will be a tremendous job that will work a lot of men. We have been told that the siding and decking will start in May or June with the paint booth systems to follow around October.

BHW should be starting the hospital work in LaGrange at anytime. This will be a good job for our members that live in that area.

Ft. Benning
The members of the Metal Trades Council just ratified an extension to their contract that included a 3.5% raise. This extension and raise passed 322 to 8. We continue to prepare for contract negotiations; we will be ready to negotiate when the new contract is awarded by the government.

We have a big job that will start at Ft. Benning in the summer. The contractor has told us that he will need over 50 journeymen on this project that will last nearly a year. This will be the first construction project that building trades’ journeymen have worked on at Ft. Benning in a long time.

Albany
The power plant in Early County is moving forward, LS Power has decided to give HB Zachery the opportunity to bid the work. They have told the Albany Building Trades that they would forward our contact information to them. We will do everything we can to secure this work for our members.

Macon
Work in the Macon area has slowed for our contractors, Giles Sheet Metal is working on projects in the Savannah area as well has the Paulding County Jail.

Please keep in mind that all of us need to be active in our communities especially town hall meetings, Board of Education meetings etc…. We have seen many government buildings outside of Atlanta built by non-union companies; we must be active in these meetings and voice our opinion on how our tax dollars are spent.

Work Safe
